The Islamo-Left Alliance

Looking at an emerging unholy coalition through a Scriptural lens

Muslim-Greens"Britain is … following the same broad trajectory (as France) towards an explicitly Islamo-Leftist politics for part of the nation, with no sign that the Government recognises the errors that led us to this point or has any idea how to turn the ship around." ('How the Left’s love-in with Islam will change Britain', in The Telegraph, 14 March 2026)

One of the great mysteries in politics has to be the strange alliance between those on the far left and Islamists.

Labour has long successfully courted the Muslim vote. To a certain extent, this was both understandable and justifiable historically, when Muslims were a tiny proportion of the population and Labour saw part of their role as guardians of ethnic and religious minorities. But as the Muslim population grew, things became much more problematic, as politicians swept serious crimes under the carpet in the name of community cohesion.

Unholy alliance

More recently the Greens successfully won a by-election by somehow appealing to the ultra-progressive voters on one hand and ultra-conservative (with a small c) Muslim voters on the other.

The Gaza war, and now the Iran war, has brought out the most baffling aspects of this left-wing/Islamic alliance.

How on earth do groups such as Queers for Palestine reconcile their support for Hamas when that same terrorist group would mercilessly throw those same gays off the roofs of high buildings?

Why are Western feminists silent about the severe repression of women in various Muslim countries, particularly Afghanistan, but also Iran?

As the Muslim population grew, things became much more problematic, as politicians swept serious crimes under the carpet in the name of community cohesion.

How can these groups bleat about protecting Muslims in this country, yet rarely say a word about the many Islamic countries that routinely persecute, imprison, even torture and kill Christians and other religious minorities.

Spiritual dimension

In the end, with this and other strange-seeming alliances, I’ve come to the conclusion that the explanation has to be spiritual, rather than one that can be explained by purely rational logic.

In Revelation, we see various forces rise up. There is the false prophet, and the beasts – all doing the work of the dragon – the satan. We also hear from the apostle John about the antichrist, or the spirit of the antichrist, often thought to be the beasts in Revelation, but not necessarily.

There may well be specific representatives (nations, empires or people) of these spirits in an end-times scenario, but they are also the same spiritual forces that have fought against God since the beginning. Their efforts overlap when it suits, so they can’t always be neatly separated one from another. However, they do appear to be distinguishable in part by the way that they operate against the works of God.

The False Prophet

The False Prophet in particular uses religion in whatever way it can to work against the purposes of God. This can come through corrupting the Church – in the Middle Ages, in particular, the whole structure of the Church became a body of control and superstition, although there were many holy men and women within its ranks. This corruption can also be seen nowadays when pastors or other leaders seek to exert control through abuse (sexual, financial or otherwise).

The False Prophet in particular uses religion in whatever way it can to work against the purposes of God.

Other religions through the ages have been clearly influenced by the spirits of the False Prophet. But Islam has to be the fullest, most long-lasting, outworking of this spirit. From the very beginning, and continuing over many centuries, it conquered, usually by force, much of the lands that had once been Christian in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and North Africa. After the military defeat of the Ottoman Empire and Caliphate post-1917 it began to raise its militant head once more, in a slightly different way.

Beasts, dragon and antichrist

The beasts are, as the book of Daniel explains, military empires that seek to dominate for wealth and control. Daniel describes the rise and fall of several of these through the ages, and Revelation adds to this. These hugely influence world events, as well as ordinary peoples’ lives, yet you can see within them how God still works out His purpose. Looking back in history, we can see how so many of the big ‘beasts’ have sought to obliterate Israel. Babylon, Persia (through Haman, and thwarted by Esther and Mordecai), Greece, Rome, then the Ottomans.

The Bible is clear that there are many antichrists – and it is these who deny Jesus as God. Many consider the beasts of Revelation to be the one great end-times antichrist. That could be. One modern manifestation of the antichrist spirit, however, is communism, but it is ultimately any system that seeks to deny God, and elevates something else in its place – not least, humanity itself. This pattern began at the Tower of Babel, and can be seen in all the communist states of recent times – not least North Korea.

These systems begin by emphasising the importance of humanity, but proceed swiftly to destroy anyone or anything that stands in their way – the numbers of those killed by communist states over the years run into the millions. We can see clearly how this overlaps with the beasts. The biggest communist state today is, of course, China. China’s national symbol is the dragon. The dragon in Revelation symbolises Satan, but could it be possible that one of its ‘antichrist’ outworkings is, in fact, communism, such as has devastated China during the Cultural Revolution, and which still seeks to brutally repress the growing Church there.

Antisemitic

So, it would seem that we have three strands working against God’s purposes – false religion, power, and the denial of God, and when needed, they will work in unison. Observing this being outplayed in the present hour, we see how one particular feature clearly unites the hard left (inspired by the antichrist spirit) and the Islamists (inspired by the false prophet) – and that is hatred of Israel. It was the same desire that united that otherwise most unlikely coming together  of Hitler and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem as they both held a common determination to wipe out the Jewish people.

We see how one particular feature clearly unites the hard left (inspired by antichrist) and the Islamists (inspired by the false prophet) – and that is hatred of Israel.

Whenever we see the alliance of strange bedfellows, it is likely that the seeming unity comes from a determination to thwart God’s purposes. Israel and the Jews are one of these purposes, but Christianity is even more so a target. Across the world, we see Christianity under threat, in particular from other religious powers, but also from far-left ideologies, and a plain lust for power.

Evil destroyed

They will, however, destroy each other –  for these entities are clearly ultimately incompatible. In speaking of the enemy, Jesus said that a house divided against itself will fall. In this way, we saw how in 1979, the communists joined with the Islamists to overthrow the corrupt monarchy in Iran. But only one could conquer and rule; the communists were swiftly sidelined or executed as the Islamists took control.

In the same way, the hard Left/Islamist alliance in the UK will crumble eventually. But it may do a lot of damage before it does. World history shows that we always need to guard against these spirits, in their various forms.

And it is interesting to note how these strange spiritual alliances are playing out in the jostling of world powers today.

Yet, ultimately – and this is one of the key messages of Revelation – these powers will be destroyed. Jesus will reign fully – His kingdom will come and God’s purposes will most certainly be fulfilled. The gates of hell will not prevail.

I so agree with you Kathryn that the bizarre alliance between the progressive left and Islamic groups can only be explained by spiritual deception. We know that the antichrist spirit is particularly characterised by the denial of the Trinity, especially denying the divinity of the Lord Jesus: 'He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son' (1 John 2:22). In the Qur'an it states: 'They have certainly blasphemed who say Allah is the Messiah, the Son of Maryam (Sura 5:17). Inside the Dome of the Rock in the heart of Zion is the antichristic inscription on the octagonal arcade, which (translated from the Arabic) reads concerning Allah: 'Far be it removed from His transcendent majesty that He should have a son'. The biblical truth that Jesus is the eternal Son of God, and the Satanic rage against God's covenants concerning Israel, lie at the heart of so much that is to come in the events leading up to the Lord's return, according to the prophetic Scriptures.

Excellent article Kathryn. Sadly the church in the UK is to a large extent blissfully aware of the dangers of Islam and the deceptive evil of the far left. The Enemy is blinding many of God's people to the incongruity of this alliance and the damage it is doing to our country, All the more important for all believers who love Israel and are looking for the return of Jesus to stand together and be heard. Thank you for your clarity and accuracy.

Very good article Kathryn. I have been recently been reflecting on whether or not the red/green alliance actually be Daniel's final empire with the mixing of two types.
Whether that is right or not you neatly highlight sme of the paradoxes on this ungodly alliance.
