Britain on the Brink
Britain is dangerously adrift – militarily defenceless, morally bankrupt and spiritually spineless
There’s an urgency in my spirit that won’t go away. I have addressed the subject before, but the Lord keeps drawing my attention to the urgency of the hour we face as a nation, which is in great peril over its abandonment of Christianity and its betrayal of Israel.
I don’t often look at the time, not even wearing a watch, yet various digital clocks regularly catch my eye invariably declaring that it’s 9:11.
Of course, we know that a mighty disaster struck the United States on 9/11 2001 when the Twin Towers fell, and how scaringly appropriate that date was since it was also America’s emergency telephone number!
Britain in urgent need
Now it is Britain which is in desperate danger, and in need of an urgent need to repent and turn back to God. Pastor John Anosike, of Strengthen the Faithful, has been urging Christians to wake up to the vital need for prayer by reminding us how God saved us from the Nazi threat through seven national days of prayer held at various crisis points during World War II.
“There can only be one reason for this urgency,” he writes in the June/July issue of Heart newspaper1. “At some point in the not-too-distant future this nation will face an existential crisis of such magnitude that only divine intervention will be able to save us. Just as Britain was alone at the time of the Dunkirk crisis (May 1940), this nation will be alone again, without any human help available; only divine help.”
I believe he is right. We are militarily defenceless, morally bankrupt and spiritually spineless. We are, in a sense, back on the beaches of Dunkirk needing a miracle rescue. Our ship of state is drifting, rudderless, towards the rocks, on the choppy waters of a world in turmoil.

As part of his national call to action, Pastor John has produced and distributed a ten-minute video chronicling how 335,000 soldiers were miraculously delivered from the beaches of Dunkirk – and possible annihilation.
A shaking of the nations
Forty years ago, an extraordinary prophecy was given at a gathering of Christian leaders on Israel’s Mt Carmel, where the prophet Elijah confronted the false prophets of Baal.
The message, from the late Bible teacher Lance Lambert, focused on what he described as “unparalleled upheaval and turmoil” that was shortly to follow. His words were along the lines of Haggai’s warning from God: “In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations (the Messiah) will come, and I will fill this house with glory” (Haggai 2:6f).
The New Testament letter to the Hebrews reminds its hearers of these words, adding: “The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken – that is, created things – so that what cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26f).
Lance’s message included the following statement contributed by his colleague Dr Clifford Hill: “Do not fear the power of the Kremlin, nor the power of the Islamic Revolution, for I plan to break both of them through Israel.”
The prophecy further explained that the Lord had not forgotten or given up on his chosen people. “In all their afflictions I was afflicted… I, the King of Israel, have been present… in all their sufferings. There was no gas chamber, no massacre in which I was not present. But now the time has surely come when I shall rescue them, for I will reveal myself to them, and with astonishment they will recognise me.”
There are now an estimated one million Jewish believers in Jesus in our midst.
Freedom from oppression
It was also prophesied that, in the midst of judgments, multitudes would be saved across the nations, backed by the comment: “You will hardly know how to bring the harvest in…” Evidence of this being fulfilled today is all around us.
Within just four weeks of that 1986 conference, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster struck and proved a key factor in the subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union’s Iron Curtain that had kept Eastern Europe chained to the Communist dogma. Over a million persecuted Jews were thus freed to return to their ancient homeland in fulfilment of multiple biblical prophecies.
The shaking we are now witnessing in the Middle East is even more serious as it affects the entire world, with America fully involved as Israel’s long-term ally.

A spiritual Battle of Britain
At the heart of it all is little Israel, like young David of old, bringing down the antisemitic Goliaths of this world. I remember sharing a vision I had with our church back in the 1980s of how we were engaged in a spiritual ‘Battle of Britain’ through our prayers. Today this is truer than ever.
Britain’s mainly Gentile Christians are being called at this time to pray and intercede, repenting of our national sin
Just as Esther, the Jewish Queen of Persia, was called “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14) to save her people from genocide, Britain’s mainly Gentile Christians are being called at this time to pray and intercede, repenting of our national sin in breaking the Ten Commandments and betraying the Jewish people who blessed us with God’s Word.
Have mercy on us, Lord. Forgive us and welcome us back into your loving arms. Amen.
